15 Best NES Games Just like bad games, the NES also had some awesome games as well. In fact, there's so many of them, I don't even know where to begin in this list, it's hard to choose 15, but if I chose 15 bad games, I can pick 15 good ones. Enjoy readin' through the list!

15: Super Mario Bros.

A legend, a new generation, and a father of games. I know some may think it doesn't deserve 15, but I made it #15 because it was as basic as a platformer could get, but please don't take it like I'm degrading it because of that, I recognize it as a true classic. If you don't know about this game, you really should be shot the fuck down. That's as bad as those dumbasses who go on and on about Final Fantasy VII and then know nothing of the first game, yet call themselves a "true fan". But that aside, this game really made a name for itself; sometimes I have to wonder though, what exactly was Nintendo thinking? I wonder if it's a promotion for drugs or relates to the way of the hippie, you eat mushrooms and you change form, you eat flowers and you can throw fire. Such simplistic yet strange aspects of the game, but that's what makes it so fucking awesome!

14: Bubble Bobble

An arcade classic by the same makers of Space Invaders, and the game which would feature characters in a later puzzle game, Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move, Bubble Bobble. You play the role as Bubby (player 1) or Bobby (player 2) who are trying to save their girlfriends from an evil monster. They magically change form into bubble-blowing dinosaurs and work together (unless you're playing single player mode) and go through 100+ levels, each one bringing a new challenge. This game introduced a new style of gameplay, and the NES version seems to have been the most popular of the many ports from the arcade. Many call this game the "best NES game for co-op ever made", and I'd probably have to agree with that. Although the game gets a little hard after awhile, there's always the password system. Also, this game has one of the catchiest tunes in the entire history of games, you can listen to it here!

13: Zelda II - The Adventure of Link

I've lost track of how many times I've seen this game in "bad" lists, but it's not really when you forget the fact it's a Zelda game, and put yourself in the shoes of an action/platform RPG. Really, it's a great game with very lengthy gameplay. It may take a rather long while to beat it. The story in short is that Zelda has been put into a sleeping spell soon after Link rescues her, and he must kill a new evil to prevent the revival of Ganon, while at the same time placing crystals in all of the temples in Hyrule so that the spell on Zelda can be broken. All in all, a great game, can be rather annoying to most, but just keep at it.

12: Adventures of Lolo

Interesting new kind of puzzle/adventure game released in the late 80s, this game was made into a trilogy, which died along with the NES soon after the SNES hit the markets, and never was made into later games. One my recognize the two characters, Lolo (blue) and Lala (pink) as bosses in some of the Kirby games. If so, they are absolutely right. In this game, you play the role of Lolo and try to save Lala who has been kidnapped by an evil wizard. Challenging puzzles await the player from start to end. The game itself is great, but can become boring after an hour or so of play, but it's so addicting you'll simply come back for more later. The difficulty slopes from easy to very difficult, sometimes you may have an itch to even look up a guide on some levels. All in all, it's a great game, and damn well deserves its spot on this list.

11: Final Fantasy

Origin of one of the most popular RPGs ever to be brought upon us, Final Fantasy. Originally released in 1987, it struck big in Japan, as well as everywhere else. The story in this game is simple, yet builds up during the game. You play four different warriors, each one fully customizable by name and class at the beginning of the game, each person holding a magical orb. As the legendary heroes, they fight against all sorts of evil terrorizing the entire world. This game is, in my opinion, the best Final Fantasy. The world map is rather large, but creates a better exploration element. The setup is different than that of Dragon Warrior, as Dragon Warrior had a first-person combat system. This one is like the other Final Fantasies, a third-person view of the fight. Also, this game is where the popular catch-phrase "Tceles-B hsup" came from, backwards spelling out "Push B-Select". That was a sort of hidden secret which would bring up the world map when used in the overworld. A great game full of exploration and complete fun and hardships, this is a must-have for RPG collectors.

10: Metal Gear

A lot of people think Metal Gear Solid on the PSX was the beginning, but far from it. 1987 introduced a new style of game, stealth-action. You, Solid Snake, are sent out to put an end to a killing machine in the making called Metal Gear, a nuclear monster run by gears. Along the way, you'll have to perform a rescue mission, remain hidden in the shadows and take your shots carefully. This, as you can see easily, that is unless you're completely blind to pictures, was an overhead action game. It's rather difficult, but it helps to have a password system in this. Graphics weren't too bad, pretty average for this console. Amazing to see how much this game has evolved.

9: Mega Man 4

Already four in the series by this time, later bringing two more on the NES to come. This one was different from the first three, however, and not just the bosses. What seperates this from the others was the fact that it was the first Mega Man that let you charge your arm cannon, which was almost a requirement throughout the game. This game introduced several new other things, but managed to keep the same classic style that Mega Man always had. I put this game on here because, as I said, it introduced some new things in the series which made it almost perfect. You've never played a good Mega Man until you've played an old one.

8: Tetris

What do I really need to explain about this game? It's mother-fucking Tetris! What is there not to love about the original? Addicting gameplay, awesome and catchy music, what else is there to say? Classic Russian game which pretty much everyone knows. Those who don't will eventually.

7: The Legend of Zelda

God almighty the mid-80s classic, Legend of Zelda. So simple, yet so addicting, and just pure kick-ass. There's secrets scattered all over the place, Engrish, enemies and dungeons. Basically, the idea is simple. Collect the shards of one piece of the triforce, kill Ganon and save Zelda. This game also offered something that no other game ever had before: two quests. The difference between the two is everything. Difficulty, different dungeon locations, item locations, and everything. Not a single fuckin' thing to not love about this game, except for the fanboys out there who are all "diz game is sht haloz bettr" but who gives a shit about them? Onto the next game!

6: Dragon Warrior IV

Some probably think that Dragon Warrior IV was actually a very good game, but after I'd played through and beat such an involving story such as the Erdrick trilogy, I wasn't as attached to this one sadly. However, for a NES game, this one was also fucking awesome. The game itself lasted a rather long time and everything was rather involving. There was a large number of things you could do in it, and this one, unlike the first three, was seperated into five chapters. Each one leads into the main story of the hero, who you don't get to play until the final chapter. There's too much to the game to really explain it all in here, so one will have to find out for themselves. This game is more rare and expensive because it was one of the very last released on the NES, and sadly didn't get many grabs. If you can find it though, and afford it, get it.

5: Bionic Commando

"You damn fool." Anyone remember that line? If so, good. If not, you're learning, young grasshopper. It's taken from this game, and in fact comes from the mouth of the final boss, Hitler. Yes, Hitler. This game was originally a game where Nazis bring back Hitler in the future, but was censored in the NES version for obvious reasons. The Nazis were called the Badds. This game was full of pure win, yet difficult, but not insanely so. Instead of jumping, you use your bionic arm which attaches to ceilings and platforms, letting you swing or pull yourself up. The game had excellent response time, almost perfect gameplay, and had something huge going for it. Fuck that new Bionic Commando shit, this is where it really is.

4: Clash at Demonhead

A bitter shame this game didn't get nearly as much credit as it should've, nor recognition. This is a sort of anime-inspired action/platformer which has quite a length to it. The world map is almost free to explore and the game itself is just full of pwn. You play a character named Bang and you basically kill everything in sight, kill all of the bosses, and obtain weapons and items along the way. Give it a shot, I almost promise you that you won't be disappointed.

3: Duck Hunt

Yeah, we all hate that fucking dog and wanna rip his head off and shit down his neck, but what about the actual game? It's still given priase and love this very day, and I still adore it. One of, sadly, few games which you could use the Zapper (NES gun). Like most of these shooters then, there's three games for one to select and play. This one features two of the main game, the only difference being one has one duck per round, the other has two. The third game is a clay-shooting game, where two clay pidgeons launch out into a field and your goal is to shoot both. Each round, they get faster and faster. Some of you might think this game doesn't deserve to be in #3, but fuck you, it's my list. :D

2: Dragon Warrior III

The best of all Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest games in my opinion, this game takes you back in time before the first game. Those of you who've played the first and second know who Erdrick/Roto is, and this game you play as him. When I first got this game, it took me two weeks exactly to the date, around 16 or more hours a day until I beat it. Full of adventure and amazing story, this game will surely keep you busy for a long while. The story is deeply involving and keeps you wanting more. To me, this is the best RPG the NES has to offer.

1: Super Mario Bros. 3

Finally, the last of the list. People say this game is overrated, I don't know how the fuck it is, not nearly as bad as Final Fantasy VII, or World of Warcraft. They're just jealous they never played a game as good as this, and probably never will, pussies. This is one of those games where you can learn where every single fucking thing is, inside and out, and beat around a million times, yet never ever grow tired of it. It's just that great. I don't even know a word to explain how almighty this game is. It's the treasure of my childhood and holds many fond memories in my past, that's probably why I'll never let this game go. Panda, this is the only thing that'll ever come close to you, but not as a human. Of course you're still the most wonderful person in my life, this is the most wonderful game in my life!
